What do you do when you suffer from horse allergies and you love your horse?
Why do you ride? I like to think I ride because it is relaxing (and it brings me closer to my family). What is more wonderful than exploring beautiful country from the back of a horse? You tend to lose all the cares in the world.
It hasn’t always been like that for me though. You see I’m allergic to horse hair. My eyes swell shut, my nose runs, I itch all over and then I’m exhausted.
You might be thinking how can riding be relaxing for her. Well, the fact is that my family loves to ride and loves horses.
So it was either sit at home by myself or figure out how to make it work. I was determined not to let my allergies win!

The Plan
I tried shots for a while. Then I switched from this medicine to that one and finally found a combination that worked. I also wear gloves when I ride, and immediately when we are done riding I remove any contaminated clothing and shower. I also started using oils from Young Living, which I’m in love with. R.C. and peppermint are my favorite for dealing with my nose!
Additionally, I have a loving husband that does all the brushing and saddling, so that I can avoid touching my horse as much as possible.
What This Means For You
You see where there is a will there is a way. You just have to decide how important things are to you. What is important? And, for me, riding with my family is important.
Find a way today to persevere above all the odds. Problem solve a current situation or challenge. Above all, don’t forget to saddle up!
